Mid red colour. Blackcurrant cassis with eucalyptus notes on the nose and palate. The fruitiness is served up by soft, smooth tannins which have a little grip on the finish. The first vintage of Bin 2 was 1960. The Bin series was created by Penfolds in 1959 where some of their finest wines were stored in Bins in Magill Estate, just 8 km east of Adelaide. Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary arrived in Australia from West Sussex, England, in 1844. The doctor was a firm believer in the medical benefits of wine. The couple planted a vineyard and made wine which Penfold prescribed to his patients from his medical practice on the eastern outskirts of Adelaide. As his clinic grew, Mary became more and more involved in running the winery and also oversaw viticulture and grape blending.
