Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz 2021
Tasting Notes
Mid red colour. Fruit forward jammy blackcurrant fruit with soft, smooth tannins. A multi-regional blend, the first vintage of Koonunga Hill Shiraz was 2002. Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary arrived in Australia from West Sussex, England, in 1844. The doctor was a firm believer in the medical benefits of wine. The couple planted a vineyard and made wine which Penfold prescribed to his patients from his medical practice on the eastern outskirts of Adelaide. As his clinic grew, Mary became more and more involved in running the winery and also oversaw viticulture and grape blending. So were the beginnings of what was to become Australia’s most famous wine brand
Pairings
Enjoyable on its own and delicious with stir-fried and roast pork and chicken dishes (Tandoori too). Beef and steak. And braised and roast duck, and lamb dishes. Pairs very well also with braised doufu and mushroom dishes
